While shooting in India recently, it took almost two days for Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) to receive the information about her mother’s emergency heart surgery in Atlanta (USA), according to reports.
Roberts’ 75-year old mother Betty was admitted to Atlanta hospital following a critical heart attack for emergency angioplasty when Roberts was filming “Eat, Pray, Love” and it took about two days for the message to percolate through her ultra high security, reports suggest.
Quite unhappy about the length of time it took to know about her mother’s emergency; Roberts reportedly became highly enraged and started crying when she got the delayed news in India. But she was relieved when she personally talked to her mother and learned that the mother was recovering from the surgery and stabilized.
But before leaving India, Roberts reportedly arranged a meeting with her security personnel and gave them an autographed “Thank You” note. According to a security official, Roberts was a down to earth person and did not demand any special attention.
Filmfare award winner choreographer Longinus Fernandes (Slumdog Millionaire), who worked with Roberts on this film, reportedly became her huge fan during making of this movie because of her humility and grace. Haryana villagers, where she was shooting for few weeks, also miss her.
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed points out that humility is a great virtue and celebrities should stay away from vanity. Ancient Hindu scripture Katha Upanishad says: The ego gropes in darkness, while the Self lives in light, Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, adds.
Directed by Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck) and aimed at a release in 2011, “Eat, Love, Pray” also stars Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Viola Davis (Doubt), Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), James Franco (Pineapple Express), Luca Argentero (Lezioni di cioccolato), etc.
